Tiger Woods 09 swings for the top
Last year's TW was almost inexplicably tough enough to stop fans ever wanting to take to the greens ever again, but just in case anyone thought they might ever drive a ball straight again, Tiger Woods PGA Tour is back for another year.

Vicarious geekery
Because there was no internet when I was a kid, my barometer for what was cool in the world of gadgets, games and other nerdiness was the son of a friend of my mother's. He was friendly enough to loan his stuff out, but it didn't stop my insane jealousy from festering.

Mr. Game and Watch
When Nintendo announced the DS; and I mean the original, silver behemoth and not its ice cool, slimline brethren - I got a severe case of déjà vu.

Racing Into The Future...
Following on from my last column exalting the virtues of Atari's Sprint series, I decided to chronicle some of the best 80s racing games ever.

Before Mario Kart there was Sprint!
This column really is turning into patronizing drivel about how youngsters today don't know they're born, and how their elders and betters really have seen it all before. More to the point, it's a column that goes the extra mile to prove this is exactly the case. Otherwise I'd be an ignorant old curmudgeon, but I'm not - and here's yet more evidence why.

'The Sims' owe a lot to 'LCP'
What was it about The Sims that captured the imaginations of more PC gamers than any other game previously, or since. 16 million plus copies of Maxim's creation shipped. That's an awful lot of hot tubs, grandfather clocks and indecipherable arguments scattered across the world.

Load times equal good times
You might think that the load times between the holes of Tiger Woods are too long, but as your probable elder and perhaps better, just like the old folks say, you’ve never had it so good.

Sensible reclaiming the soccer crown
No one seems to quite know why the arrival of Sensible World Of Soccer on the Xbox 360 live arcade was changed from a date that already passed earlier in the summer to one that is now simply listed as "unknown". It could be that almost nobody actually cares about the title.

Karate Champ a bigger influence than you think
EA has been talking up its upcoming Skate for some time, promising that it will bring back the true essence of what really makes video game skating – simulating the emotion so the player feels they really are grinding that schoolyard bench and hand planting that swimming pool lip. EA is promising that pulling tricks will be an almost strictly organic analog affair, controlled almost entirely with the 360’s two thumb sticks.

Bioshock Review
Swim for your life. Pay no mind to the fact that not 30 seconds ago you were aboard a mid-Atlantic flight enjoying a cigarette, or that the ocean’s surface is ablaze with aviation fuel. Just swim. And now you can breath. It might be an idea to head for that path illuminated by that streetlight.

And so Bioshock begins. Many promises have been made that it will be a video game experience unlike any other. But for now, you better figure out where the steps through a doorway lead.
