E3: ‘X’ marks the spot for Microsoft

At E3, Microsoft has revealed the most powerful gaming console to date.

Formerly code-named “Project Scorpio”, the Xbox One X offers 4K gaming and 4K Ultra HD for Blu-ray X, HDR support for gaming and video, and Dolby Atmos support.

The Xbox One X itself houses six teraflop GPUs clocked at 1.172GHz. It has 326GB per second of memory bandwidth and 2GB of GDDRS memory.

It is also substantially smaller than its predecessor, the Xbox One.

All Xbox One games and accessories will be compatible with the Xbox One X system. Those who already own Halo Wars 2, Gears of War 4 and Forza Horizon 3 will get a free 4K updates.

On an existing1080p TV, Microsoft insists that the Xbox One X will improve existing Xbox One gaming libraries by providing enhanced textures, framerates and faster load times.

Xbox One X will launch worldwide on November 7th for $499 U.S.

MicrosoftAnother big announcement at E3 was that Microsoft is working on extending backwards compatibility to original Xbox games including such popular titles as Crimson Skies. The program is slated for launch later this year.

As far as actual games, Microsoft presented 42 titles with 22 of them exclusive to Xbox.

Making the most impact were Anthem (developed by Alberta’s own BioWare), Assassin’s Creed Origins, Crackdown 3, Forza Motorsport 7, Middle-Earth: Shadow of War and State of Decay 2.

In a dangerous tropical world where strange beasts and raiders prowl, Freelancers venture beyond a great wall. Wearing powerful, customizable Javelin exosuits, the Freelancers are civilization's only protectors. Anthem is a multiplayer, online adventure. It will be released in 2018.

Assassin’s Creed Origins
The franchise heads to ancient Egypt. As a sheriff of sorts, you explore the mysteries behind the Great Pyramids and the pharaohs. Release date: October 27.

Crackdown 3Crackdown 3
The blow ‘em up, knock them the heck out franchise returns with a worldwide campaign that features four-person campaign co-op and an all-new multiplayer mode. It will be released on November 7th.

Forza Motorsport 7
Coming in October, Forza Motorsport 7 will contain 700 cars, including the new 2018 Porsche 911 GT2 RS cover car).

Middle-Earth: Shadow of War
Middle-EarthHitting stores on October 10th, the refined and enhanced sequel to “Shadow of Mordor”, Shadow of War will allow players to recruit their own armies and battle for Middle-earth in this open-world RPG.

State of Decay 2
With a 2018 release date, players team-up to survive a zombie apocalypse. You can play solo or invite up to three friends in multiplayer co-op. Your choices shape the identity of your community, ensuring that no two stories are alike and when you are dead, you are toast for good due to the permadeath feature.
